Staying for our 2nd year anniversary me and my wife thoroughly enjoyed such a relaxing and much needed cozy stay after climbing the Peak District.

A perfect tucked away and extremely cozy stay that is perfect to explore York and the nearby areas of which you will find multiple recommendations within the huts welcome book and talking to the hosts themselves.

The hosts were excellent and caring, readily replying to any questions or messages and have thought of absolutely everything regarding the hut and all you will need during your stay.
Even adding a personal touch by kindly leaving us a bottle and a card as a personal touch as we celebrated our anniversary.

Personally I like to stay at a new place every time I go away but I most definitely see my self returning here as I enjoyed it that much.

Just back from a weekend staying in the hollow, we had a great time, very convenient bus stop just outside to take you into York and our hosts were brilliant and had thought of everything to make the stay as great as it was 😁

We had an amazing time celebrating my partners 30th birthday. Would highly recommend to anyone. Andrew and Clare were fantastic hosts. Looking forward to staying again in the future.

My husband and I had the most amazing few days away at this gorgeous place. It was so quiet and peaceful just what we needed. The hosts were really welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They have thought of everything to make our stay perfect. We had a great day in York which was really easy as there’s a bus stop just outside and only takes about 20 minutes. Just got back from a 2 night stay in the Hollow. Fantastic peaceful setting, and perfect location to venture out, we caught the bus into York for shopping, lunch and cocktails! Andrew and Clare are the perfect hosts and have thought of everything, a lovely welcome pack and a nice touch of choosing to buy in fresh cooked food so we didn’t have to go out or think about cooking! We opted for a slow cooker meal, desserts and cheam tea all were very tasty 👏🏼 Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

An excellent place to stay, close to a bus stop for ease of getting into York. Lovely site. They have thought of lots of lovely little things that make it a beautiful and relaxing stay.

A little piece of heaven! Perfectly equipped with everything you need, really comfy bed, and the location is so peaceful.
Falling asleep to the sound of water, and having your morning coffee under a canopy of trees is honestly magical. Wish we never had to leave! The hot tub overlooking the lake is such a lovely addition.
Great communication from the hosts, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Loved having the option to order evening meals! Already planning to come back.

From the minute we arrived we knew this would be a magical place. Andrew came to meet us and show us the ropes. Wow. The shepherds hut had everything and more. They had thought of every little detail, and everything felt like luxury from the hot tub, toiletry products, to the robes, to the wrendale design touches (my favourite) and all the little bits in between. The welcome hamper was beautiful and we took advantage of some of the extras meals you could purchase. Clare brought these and she was so lovely and you could tell it was her passion. The food was outstanding. Honestly we couldn't fault anything!

The surroundings were stunning! a beautiful lake where my husband spent one day fishing whilst I sat taking in the surroundings. You felt like you was in a forest on your own even though there were 5 shepherds huts altogether. There was many places where you could sit and listen to the birds, the water features on the pond and all the little lights lit up around the site at night while you sat and watched the stars.

We will be back for sure!

Perfect stay from start to finish. Clare & Andrew so welcoming, friendly and helpful. We stayed in The Nest it's was beautifully presented and clean and the little extra touches were perfect. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to leave it on Sunday to come home. Would recommend staying here and will definitely be back

We had the loveliest stay at Hart Lake Escapes – such a special little find just outside of York 🤍

It was our first time staying in a shepherd’s hut and it completely exceeded expectations. The space was so thoughtfully set up – cosy but still had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, without ever feeling cramped. You can tell a lot of care has gone into the details, from the interiors to the overall layout of the site.

The standout feature for us was definitely the wood-fired hot tub. It made the whole experience feel extra special, especially in the evenings – there’s something so relaxing about being out there surrounded by nature after a day exploring York.

The location is also ideal – peaceful and tucked away, but still only a short drive into the city, so you get the best of both worlds.
Overall, such a cosy, unique stay and perfect for a weekend escape. Would 100% recommend if you’re looking for something a little different from your usual hotel stay ✨

Wow what a find this place was!! We had a very relaxing 2 night breaking at Hart Lake Escapes, an absolutely perfect setting with wonderful attentive hosts. Andrew and Clare have thought of everything and more, we added an evening meal and a breakfast pack to our stay which was well worth the money, the beef in Guinness was delicious and was bubbling away in our hut when we arrived and the breakfast pack contains everything you need for 2 days. The huts are kitted out with everything, you don't even need to take a phone charger.
I have wanted to visit York for so long and this was a perfect setting just a bus ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Andrew helped us download an app for the buses and the stop was just outside the site it cost us £8 to get into York and back, so easy and much better than worrying about parking.

Another great stay at Hart Lake Escapes. This was our third time here and was just as fabulous as the previous stays. It’s so relaxing and a welcome body battery recharge. Highly recommended👌

Our 4th visit to the fantastic Shepherds Huts. Perfectly situated for exploring the area.
The huts are gorgeous with such attention to detail (for example for December an Advent calendar in the hut & Easter decorations for this visit), everything you need plus a fab welcome basket. There is an option also to order extras, for example a slow cooker meal (we choose this option for our first night meal), breakfast packs, celebration extras. Each hut is secluded from others with views of the pond & lovely sounds of a fountain. The hot tubs are a lovely extra, relaxing & private.
The owners are friendly & helpful.
We have visited in to celebrate a big birthday, in December so we could got to Castle Howard & York Christmas Market & this time for Easter which included a trip to Whitby, Scampston Walled Garden & as always a visit into York. There is so much to do in the surrounding area.
A loyalty scheme means we can add a free night onto our next visit & we will be back that’s for sure!
Part of me wants to shout about how fab the place is & part of me want to keep it all to myself!!!

We enjoyed a lovely stay for two nights in 'The Nest' with many duck themed features! The card and bottle of prosecco was a very kind gesture as we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, thank you! We also liked the 'cosy' feel to the hut and the hot tub was greatly appreciated after a long day sightseeing in York. The location is very calm and peaceful and just what we needed to celebrate our anniversary. We will definitely visit Hart Lake Escapes again!

Had a fabulous stay here for our honeymoon. The owners went all out decorating our hut and were very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was left out and every detail was thought about. Easy location for a trip into York and great hot tub. Would 100% recommend

We stayed in The Hollow which was spotless, comfortable, and very well thought out, with all the little touches that make a stay feel special. Stayed over valentines weekend and it was so romantic. Our amazing hosts, Clare and Andrew, even left us a welcome gift to celebrate our anniversary.

The Warren was beautiful and had everything you could possibly need. We’ve done holidays in Shepard’s huts before but this was by far the best.

The site itself is magical and the hosts are so welcoming and attentive. We got the bus, as recommended, into York both days and the city did not disappoint.

Wonderfully relaxing escape! The hosts are kind enough to welcome you as you arrive and also bid you farewell as you leave. The huts are stocked with everything you need and just perfect. 110% recommended!

We stayed here over New Year and had a genuinely great time. The lodge itself is really peaceful and finished to a very high standard, with loads of small details that show how much care has gone into it. Everything felt high quality and well thought through, which made it easy to relax and switch off.

Clare and Andrew were brilliant hosts – very friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with from start to finish. Nothing felt like too much trouble. Overall, a great place to spend New Year and somewhere we would happily return to.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this place! We had the most lovely stay over new year. Clare and Andrew had thought of absolutely everything you need to have an easy comfortable relaxing stay. The instructions on how to use things were so clear and the hut was just perfect. We don’t often stay in places twice but we will be back here in 2026!

The hut also has great transport links to York which this time we didn’t utilise, hence the return visit?

We absolutely loved our New Year stay in The Nest at Hart Lake Escapes ✨ We spent three nights there and it was the perfect frosty getaway – such a cosy little hut surrounded by nature and total peace.

Andrew and Clare have thought of absolutely everything, with the most amazing attention to detail. From the warm welcome when we arrived to the friendly send-off when we left, we felt so looked after.

It’s also a brilliant location – just a short bus ride into York, so you get the calm of a countryside escape with the option to head into the city for a wander.

We loved it so much we’ve already booked again for next New Year… this might just be our new annual tradition ❤️

What a wonderful stay we had in the Nest. Everything was thought of and we didn’t want for anything. It’s the small details that make such a difference. Perfect little pre Christmas getaway. We stayed in the Den which was the cosiest little fox themed hut which had everything you could possibly need and more including a lovely little welcome pack including goodies sourced locally from York or Yorkshire.

We were warmly welcomed by Andrew who gave us a low down of everything we needed to know about the hut, wood fired tub & even how to get into York should we wish too. And shortly visited by Claire to introduce herself & check in on us which was lovely.

We headed into York on the bus to visit the markets which was approximately a 25 minute journey which was definitely worth it and simple enough with a bus stop just across the road from the huts.

We had a fab 2 nights stay to relax ahead of christmas & we will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you Andrew & Claire for a wonderful stay.

We had the most relaxing stay at Hart Lake. The Nest was so cosy and we loved the log burner and hot tub. It was very romantic. So easy to hop on the bus into York and lots to do and see close by. We highly recommend you try it out. Nichola and John 5th - 7th Dec 2025.

We stayed at Lake Hart Escapes for our mini moon (14th-17thOct). What a great Escape! The hut has everything you need, including a hot tub! For us it was the prefer break, no kids, no dogs, no party groups, just couples. There are 5 Huts in total, but it feels like it's just you and your other half. It's quiet and relaxing, just what we needed after a busy few months of planning our wedding and the high of the big day itself. We were so surprised to find a bottle of prosecco and some lovely signage decorating the hut when we arrived, making us feel extra special. We were greeted on arrival by Lauren, who went through everything including the hot tub which is powered by a log burner! Lauren very kindly got it started for us on our first day whilst we went off and explored York. (Bus stop on main road and took approx 20mins). Clare and Andrew greeted us when we left. What a lovely family who work so hard to make your stay to best. Highly recommended for your escape!

Had a marvellous 4 night stay, such a great environment to relax that we didn't get out to do any sightseeing, just cooked & ate outside, tried a spot of fishing, sitting in the sunshine listening to all the woodland birds, and unwinding in the hot tub all evening.

We had a wonderful two night stay, very peaceful and relaxing with a cosy atmosphere. Andrew and Clare were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. We booked two meals (mains and desserts) with Clare and these were delicious. From a moderate disability point of view, the site is level and my wife was able to negotiate the 4 steps up to the hut without too much of a problem.

Just had a lovely couple of days away at Hart Lake Escapes, wow, what a beautiful place, everything was first class and obviously put together with love, this isn't your usual in it for the money type place its obviously a business, however its undoubtedly a passion of Andrew and Claire to make sure everything is perfect, would definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful stay at the Hollow. We were made to feel very welcome by the whole family including Woody the dog! The shepherds hut was so well thought out, it had everything you could possibly need. There was fresh milk and butter in the fridge and a lovely welcome pack of bread, jam, eggs ,coffee and teabags and a couple of treats aswell ( the brownie was delicious), which was much appreciated -after a long journey we could make a decent cuppa without having to go in search of a shop. The bed was so comfortable we had the best night's sleep the whole time we were there. The hot tub was a real treat to come back to after exploring York during the day. We only wish we had booked a longer stay as the time flew by too quickly!

We had a wonderful anniversary weekend at Hart Lake Escapes and felt so relaxed from the moment we arrived. Clare and Andrew have done such an amazing job creating a unique getaway and they have considered every detail to make for a comfortable and relaxing, and personalised stay. They were great hosts and we felt sad to leave, but we will certainly be visiting again. We would recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic and unique stay in such a beautiful part of the country.

We stayed in the warren and it was everything we could have asked for and more, we were thoroughly looked after by our amazing hosts who added a touch of luxury everywhere possible. The bed was comfortable, shower was hot and all towels/ blankets and robes soft. A manual was provided so none of the amenities were tricky, Clare also greeted us and walked us through the wood fired appliances which were new to us and was greatly appreciated. The welcome basket of local produce to get us started was generous, as was the range of shower product available. The most relaxed I’ve been in a while and we can’t wait to find a reason to book again. Thank you Hart lake escapes!

I absolutely loved our time at Hart Lakes Escapes. It's a beautiful setting and they have thought about all the details that make a stay cosy, comfortable and convenient. We easily took day trips to the coast through the beautiful Moors and into York. The hot tub was sooooo lovely to be in - private and surrounded by trees. The hut itself has everything we needed - warm, kitchenette, shower, toilet, blankets, robes...the list goes on. I would definitely go back.

The Shepherd’s hut is beautiful and so well designed for a cosy stay for two. There were loads of thoughtful touches too, including luxury toiletries, a lovely welcome pack containing local goodies such as bread and coffee, and even an unexpected birthday card and handmade cookie for my husband’s 50th birthday.
Andrew greeted us when we arrived and talked us through everything we needed to know about the hut and the hot tub. He even showed us how to get the bus into York, which was brilliant.
We loved our stay and would highly recommend Hart Lake Escapes for a getaway. Andrew and Clare are the perfect hosts.
